Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma, GED or equivalent and five years prior experience in the skill of splicing communication lines.
Preferred qualifications include a current Class A CDL or willingness and ability to obtain, a current DOT Medical Exam card or willingness to obtain, and a current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness and ability to obtain.
Key skills and competencies include the ability to work independently and meet deadlines, fine motor skills and visual acuity, the ability to read instructions, write reports, and work with computers, the ability to differentiate between colors, willingness and ability to join Montana IBEW under outside communication contract upon hire, awareness of all safety regulations for line companies, and knowledge of all Utility, N.E.S.C., DOT, and OSHA safety rules.
Job responsibilities include accurately and thoroughly performing splicing of communication lines, knowledge of splicing both fiber optic and copper lines, performing all work and handling all tools in accordance with accepted safety rules, regulations, and practices, interpreting specifications and diagrams to properly connect lines, insulating splices and fitting with lead sleeves, applying cable sheathing to repel moisture, barricading on public highways and public right-of-ways, completing required reports legibly, maintaining communication with direct supervisor, maintaining and properly using all trucks, equipment, and tools, responding to duty calls promptly, and performing all duties for all positions in the crew.
Compensation and benefits include a wage per Montana Communication Contract, IBEW Local 206, 532 or 768, benefits tied to union membership, medical/dental/vision, and a retirement plan contribution of 6% of earnings.
